From a Lab's Waste Problem to a Global Cleantech Solution
LabZero began with a simple observation in a Cape Town laboratory: the greatest sustainability gain doesn't come from recycling waste, but from preventing it altogether. This insight sparked our journey from ReGlove to LabZero-transforming how Africa trains its scientists.
Our Story - The Pivot to Prevention
The ReGlove Chapter
We started with ReGlove-an initiative to recycle used laboratory gloves into new PPE. While impactful and recognized for its innovation, we discovered a more powerful truth through our research: recycling is good, but prevention is transformative.
Every contaminated experiment represented not just waste to be recycled, but an opportunity lost-wasted plastic, reagents, time, and most importantly, wasted potential for African scientific advancement.
The LabZero Vision
We asked a better question: What if we could prevent this waste from being created in the first place?
This led to our strategic pivot to LabZero-a cleantech platform that virtualizes training and initial R&D, tackling the waste problem at its root cause: inadequate preparation before physical lab entry.
“We learned that recycling is reactive-but prevention is proactive and exponentially more powerful. LabZero solves the same sustainability problem we saw with ReGlove, just at the source.”
- Dr. Sincengile Ntshingila, Founder & CEO
Recycling 1 pair of gloves
Saves ~50g of plastic from landfills
Preventing 1 contaminated experiment
Saves ~400g of plastic, 2L of reagents, and countless hours
The Impact Multiplier
Prevention is 8x more effective than recycling

What Guides Our Work
African-Led Innovation
We build for Africa, by Africans. Our platform addresses real infrastructure constraints, bandwidth limitations, and resource realities.
Sustainable Science
Progress shouldn't cost the Earth. Every decision we make is measured against its environmental impact.
Radical Accessibility
Excellence shouldn't require privilege. We're committed to breaking down cost and infrastructure barriers.
Collaborative Excellence
We build better together. We partner with leading institutions, researchers, and students to co-create the future.
